In addition to sheep, donkeys, mules, goats, camels and cows, there are also many cats and dogs, although most of them live on the streets.
Cats are much more popular than dogs in Morocco; the little furbabies are often fed and cared for by the locals. Dogs, on the other hand, are chased away and scared off. This is mainly because, according to the Koran, angels do not enter a house as long as a dog is there. Cats, however, are always mentioned in a positive light.
The real heroes in the mountains are probably the mules and hinnies. These infertile beasts of burden come from a cross between a donkey and a horse. The mother of a mule is a donkey and the mother of a mule is a horse. They are sure-footed and enduring like a donkey and strong and courageous like a horse. At the same time, they are less sensitive to temperature and in better health than horses. They have a good memory and high intelligence.
Dromedaries are the saviors of the desert. They store fat in their single stool, which can be converted into vital water. Their special feet prevent them from sinking into the sand.
In addition to the domesticated species, there are also: desert foxes, hyenas, jackals, gazelles and wild boars, as well as leopards, cheetahs, servals, desert lynxes and Barbary apes. Snakes and scorpions are of course also indigenous and we have already seen many of them.
