Morocco was the first country to recognize the United States as an independent country in 1777. The Moroccan-American Treaty of Peace and Friendship is the longest uninterrupted diplomatic relationship in the history of the United States until 2024.

The oldest university is also located in Morocco. The Al Quaraouiyine School was established in Fez in 859 AD. It was the leading institution for Arabic education for a long time.

Morocco is also the only exporter of argan oil, which is extracted from a tree endemic to Morocco. Agriculture makes up a large part of the economy here.

Morocco has an abundance of natural resources, the most abundant of which is phosphate. It is mainly used for chemical compounds and to produce plant fertilizers for agriculture. Most of it is exported from our city (El Jadida) and Safi.

The traditional clothing is the light Jellabas. In winter, kaftans are worn. Women as well as men often wear their pyjamas under these foot-length robes and if you pay attention you can often see the wild patterns of the house clothes shimmering through under the beautiful robes 😉

Morocco is one of the oldest monarchies and has been in existence since the 12th century. The current King Mohammed VI has been in power since 1999.
